Repairing Architecture in the City of Perth

The most sustainable building is the one that already exists –

Built in 1971, Stirling Towers in Highgate comprises one 12-storey tower and one three-storey tower, which together hold more than 90 apartments. The towers have been empty since 2014, and an application for demolition is currently lodged.

In collaboration with Finding Infinity and Housing Choices Australia, we prepared a retrofitting study of the buildings, including precedents, plans proposal, initiatives and their impacts, as well as a cost comparison and an embodied carbon analysis.

In March 2024, Lawson Flats and Nic Brunsdon Studio presented the event 'Practicing Care, Repairing Architecture in the City of Perth', and the document was introduced for a panel discussion with guest panellists Brad Pettitt, Chantal Caruso and Dougie Nelson.
